We invite you to attend our Ash Wednesday Service on February 22, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. *Nursery is provided for infants and toddlers.
ASH WEDNESDAY marks the beginning of Lent. The 40 days of preparation (not counting Sundays) prior to Easter morning. It emphasizes a dual encounter: we confront our mortality and confess our sins before God within the community of faith. The use of ashes is a sign of mortality and penance.
The ashes remind us how short and insignificant our lives are. As scripture tell us, “ashes to ashes, dust to dust.” However, because of God’s great love for us and Jesus’ great sacrifice for us, we wear the ashes to identify with our Savior Jesus.
This day is a particular time for new beginnings in the faith, a time for returning to the Lord. As we recall our mortality today, we wait upon the Lord to renew our spirits.
